This is the Experimental Stage archive. Here you’ll find images, news, and information about the open-format performance events that happened at UMass Dartmouth between 1992 and 2005. It was a liberating and unique outlet for students, faculty, and sometimes staff at UMD to express their creativity. Everyone was welcome to perform and many great things spun out of it.

About

The Experimental Stage (ES) was started in 1992, by Dave Ortiz and Ben Beadoin, as a private event in the UMass Dartmouth dorms. It was a creative outlet where poetry, music, and performance could happen freely. As the word got out, the small event grew. More and more students started to attend and participate.

You never really knew when the Experimental Stage was going to be and Flyers played a big role in letting folks know where and when the next one was going to happen. Here are some flyers we found.

A flyer for the Experimental Stage circa 1993. It is an pen and ink drawing of a club scene with a man at a bar flirting with a humanoid bug. The text on the flyer reads "Let's quit this pent joint and go dig the Stage.", he said. "Sure", I said. I figured my night couldn't get any more bizarre than this. I was wrong.
